Many factor influences a given area’s climatic ratio development (e.g. relief, exposure, land cover, etc.). The Sárospatak micro region shows a particular, complex view concerning the impact factors that have mentioned above, so the micro region can be separated into three region in this respect: mountanious, foothill, and lowland.

  1. I/5/1. MOUNTANIOUS REGION
    In the places above 500 m altitude, the climate is cool, moderately wet, in other places it is moderately cool-moderately wet, but in south the climate is dry.
    The sunny hours’ number in the highest peaks are about 1800 hours a year, in other places it is slightly below this value. The sun shines more than an avarage 700 hours in summer, and for 170-180 hours in winter, but at the highest points it gains up to 200 hours. The average annual temperature is 9.0-9.3°C°. The average temperature of the vegetation period is 16.0 °C. Days with an average temperature above 10°C starts from 20-25 April and lasts until 10 October, which means 168-173 days a year. The frostless period’s length is about 160 days, but at the southern slopes it even approaches 175 days. Temperatures below the freezing point are usually ceased around the 25th of April. The first frosty autumn day can be expected after October 10. The highest summer temperatures’ average are 31.0-33.0 °C, and the coldest winter days’ are between -16.0 and -18.0 °C.
    The moisture’s yearly amount is around 600 mm, 450-450 falls in the summer semester from this. The most one-day moisture, 82 mm, was counted in Kishuta. The snow covered days’ average annual number is 50. The average maximal snow thickness is 20 cm. The aridity index is slightly above 1.15. The most common wind directions are the northern and the southern, the average wind velocity on the tops are 3-4 m/s, and in the valleys are 2-2.5 m/s. The regional endowments favors for the forest and the wildlife management, the climate endowments in the valleys are suitable for the plough field plants, and the south and south-east parts are appropriate for viniculture.
  2. FOOTHILL REGION
    The climate in the south-eastern parts is hot-moderately dry, in other places it is moderately cool-moderately dry, but the northern parts are spread in the moderately wet zone border. The annual sunshine duration is expected to be around 1850 hours. We can expect 730-740 hours sunshine in the summer, and 170 hours in the winter. The annual average temperature is 9.5-9.8, and the summer semester temperature is between 16.5 and 17.0 °C. Yearly, the daily average temperature will exceed 10 °C through 180-185 days, and this period of time (depending on the altitude and the latitude) is expected to be between April 10-15 and October 14. The temperature doesn't go below the freezing-point for more than 180 days in average, but this period gains up to 190 in the slopes. The frostless period starts around 20th of April and it ends between 15-20 October. The annual highest temperatures’ average is 32.0-33.0 °C, and the lowest is -16.0, -17.0 °C. The annual moisture amount is 600-650 mm; and from this, it is expected to be 380-400 mm in the vegetational period. The snow (in the winter semester) covers the ground for 40 days in the south, and for 60 days in the north, the maximum snow thickness average is 22-25 cm. The aridity index is 1.05-1.08 in the north, and 1.15-1.20 in the south-east. The windblows are usually the north, north-east, and south, the average wind velocity sligthly transcends 2 m/s value. This climate makes the land suitable for growing plough field plants and different kind of fruits. It is also excellent for viniculture.
  3. LOWLAND REGION
    Moderately hot, but it is close to the moderately cool climate type. It lies on the border of moderately dry climate type in the north-east and in the west, but in other places, it is rather dry. The annual sunshine duration is around 1800 hours, 740-750 in the summer, and 170 in the winter. The annual average temperature is 9.5-9.7, and in the summer semester it is 16.7-17.0 °C. After 4-7 April, and before 17-18 October, that is through 192-194 days, the daily average temperature is higher than 10 °C concerning many years average. We can expect around 185-190 days for the frostless period, between 10-15 April and 20 October. The annual absolute temperature maximum average is 33.5-34.0 °C. The winter absolute minimum average is between -16.0 and -17.0 °C. The annual amount of moisture is around 550 mm, but it reaches or slightly transcends 580 mm in the south-east and in the west. The moisture amount in the summer semester is around 340 mm. The average number of snow covered days are 40-45, the average maximum snow thickness is 18-20 cm. The value of the aridity index is around 1,20 in the north-east and the west, but in other places the value is around 1,25. The most common wind directions are the north (it is rather north-eastern along the Bodrog), north-western and southern. The average wind velocity slightly transcends 2,5 m/s value. The climate is suitable for growing not too heat demanding and medium water demanding plants.
